Three Musketeers 2011: All for Entertainment

Three Muskeeters, the classic novel written by none other than Alexander Dumas. Most wouldn’t be thrilled as this has been made on big screen and even on tv for several times. Different spin-off of the story, actors who portrayed them and a lot more. So why would you watch the new Paul W.S. Anderson’s Three Musketeers? Well, I managed to catch it with our company movie night. Granted that the movie ticket is free, I did grab the chance. With not much expectation, the movie wasn’t so bad. I must say the musketeers got some humor. It’s a bit comical with some romance and lots of action. The movie may not be Oscar winning type but it can be some form of entertainment. It can really be confusing, for those who haven’t read the novel and have watch the previous movie (Man in the Iron Mask).

For the teens, of course, they’ll be dying to watch Mr. Pretty boy Logan Lerman who played the cocky D’Artagnan and his young lady in-waiting Constance played by the British Grabiella Wilde. The writer pretty much dig some lines.

Constance: Are you always this cocky?
D’Artagnan: Only on Tuesdays. And when there are beautiful women around.
Constance: So, you think I’m beautiful?
D’Artagnan: Actually, it’s Tuesday.

And who wouldn’t want to see Resident Evil Milla Jovovich who played Milady de Winter to kick some ass in the French Palace.

Although, I am not really used on watching Orlando Bloom to be the Villain as I still see him that handsome Will Turner from Pirates of the Caribbean. He made the Duke of Buckingham, well laughable and not scary. Whilst, Inglorious Basterds Christoper Waltz made some effortless acting as the main villain of the story. In conclusion, like I’ve said, it’s all for entertainment.

Charlie's Angels (2011)

Charlie's Angels

Haven't had the chance to see the original tv series, all I can remember were kicks and punches of Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu and Drew Barrymore with their angelic performance as Charlie's Angels in the big screen. They surely made it a box-office hit which is such a shame for the new reboot for TV of the glitz and glamour trio of ABC's new show.

I can't even compare Rachel Taylor, Minka Kelly and Annie Ilonzeh with the previous remake. Of the trio, I must say Rachel and Annie wasn't bad at all but they can improve. Sadly, Minka is a let down. She's such a beauty but her acting wasn't just the like Charlie would be proud of. Her action skills ain't bad but she does need to put effort with her voice.

Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly and Rachel Taylor

For the storyline, I don't see where it is going. Maybe if they do a little spin-off and give the audience something to be excited about then it could actually survive. I hate to see it be cancelled. These beauties should be given a chance.

[Update:] ABC has already cancelled the show.

Inglorious Basterds (2009)

I haven't updated this blog for a long time now, and with the number of movies I have watched since then I think Inglorious Basterds needs to be reviewed. According to Wikipedia, it is a 2009 war film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and starring Brad Pitt, Christoph Waltz and Mélanie Laurent. The film tells the fictional story of two plots to assassinate the Nazi Germany political leadership, one planned by a young French Jewish cinema proprietor (Laurent), and the other by a team of Jewish Allied soldiers led by First Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Pitt).

Certainly, this film is not my genre but when I heard that it was worth watching and Diane Kruger was in the movie,  it went straightly to my movie list and took me months before watching it and earlier I did. From the very beginning I have no idea what was the movie about, I never did watch the trailer which I usually do.

The movie did revolve with Jewish vengeance from the Nazis. Christopher Waltz portraying as Colonel Hans Landa did crack me up. I didn't doubt he won awards from this movie. On the other note, he looks a little like Tom Felton.

Col. Hans Landa
The movie exploited the Nazi's cruelty to the Jews. If you don't have a strong stomach then this movie is not for you. I have to cover my eyes in some scenes.

Lt. Aldo Raine (I wonder where he got that scar on his neck)
Shosanna (Melanie Laurent) and Frederick Zoller (Daniel Bruhl)
There were two plots made to kill the big names in the German military and I must say that the plan of Shosanna, the Jew once hunted by Col. Landa, was a bit of a fluke. Her knowing Frederick Zoller which happened to be a Nation's Pride for killing a number of people in a tower with a 360 degree view of the city only happens in the movie. While for Lt. Aldo Raine or much known as Aldo the Apache, the leader of the Inglorious Basterds, pretty much believable. Brad Pitt's accent was a odd and he always do the annoying facial expression.

Lt. Aldo (Brad Pitt) work of art. Something you can't remove.

Torture. Donowitz (Eli Roth) with his bat.
The scalping of was the grossest in the movie that I can't even look at it as well as the batting of Donowitz (Bear Hunter) was just too cruel.

Bridget Van Hammersmark (Diane Kruger)

Diane Kruger (right) Damn! Seriously. Brad Pitt (left) Ouch!
Bridget Van Hammersmark, Diane Kruger aged, I can't even see the resemblance of the beauty that wrecked a thousand of ships. Anyways, she did well. In the scene where she was shot on her left leg from the pub where they were supposed to talk about the Operation Kino (Plot #2), I can really feel the pain when Lt. Aldo pressed down the bullet on her leg (ouch!). She needs a big movie breakout because I know that she'll do great :).

Operation Kino. Frederick Zoller's attitude was kind of confusing to me. He flinched watching his movie killing a lot of people and when he was about to reconcile to Shosanna, he suddenly changed attitude when Shosanna told her to go away. It showed the temper of a military man of the German army.

The blood looked like flower petals burst from her.
Jewish Vengeance.
It's entertaining, comical, not purely killing and cruelty. You'd be more interested with the war in the 1940s, the Jews, Hitler's reign and what happened back then. Although the movie used fictitious characters, it represented what needs to be represented. If you haven't watched it yet, well you should spare your two and a half hour for this movie. Well spent.

Dear Galileo 2009 (Thai Movie)

(Dear Galileo)

A few years ago, someone told me to watch Love of Siam (a Thai movie) and out of curiosity, I downloaded it because I thought it might be a good one. After downloading, I tried scanning through scenes and upon hearing the way Thai actors speak, I was like 'WTF! men' since then I did not attempt to download Thai movies. But recently, seems like the world turned around because the thing I hate before is the thing I like now.

Dear Galileo, a movie inspired well of course none other than the genius Galileo Galilee. He once said that objects falling from the same height even with different weight will fall at the same time.

The story revolves around two girls, a heart-broken one and the other is university suspended. Because of their failures in life, they decided to venture out in a place where they are not known. Without any further planning, they flew to Europe and unfolds a different kind of adventure.

Noon (Jarinporm Junkiet) and Cherry (Chutima 'Tai' Teepanart)

The words of a heart broken:
Noon (Jarinporm Junkiet): Have you ever felt, you didn't want to pick up? But want to know, is it him? I did erase his name from my list. So I will forget he calls.

Cherry (Chutima Teepanart): But if we can do the scariest thing. We don't have to be scared on anything forever.
 Bungee Jumping

Without knowing what's going to be their fate in a foreign land and with the fact of leaving their loved ones, they still stick with their decision on their so-called adventure. In my opinion, the two protagonist depicts the youth nowadays, the act of being impulsive. When they don't get what they want, they'll find a way to get away from it and let just live their life.

It does shows how it is hard leaving someone you love

Heartfelt

Their first stop, London. For me, living in London would be a dream. This is were the riches lives. Very high cost of living and oh.. I can have a chance to see my Harry Potter idols. The movie covered how do Thai people cope up with the English life. How they deal with work, the usual Thai hospitality, showing the life of illegal workers and how they run from immigration. So much about typical life and pretty much giving advices on it's audience if they have plans to do the same thing.

The Poo Stick

They left London after learning it's beauty and life in it. Then they went to Paris money left-handed. At this point, they lost trust at each other. Noon found Tum (Ray McDonald) which enlightened him about surviving life. Tum also introduced Cherry to his future employer which led her on achieving her dreams in Italy as an architect.

(Cherry in the bathroom, facial expression is a lol.)
"Don't worry I am engaged"

Cherry(Chutima) and Noon(Jarin)
"Bond of friendship"

Cherry(Chutima) alone in Italy

They did reunite again after some time. Noon with Tum and Cherry being successful with her career.

Dear Galileo

Noon's message to Cheery: Who is homesick?

Overall, the movie teaches a lot of real life applicable lessons. Even though it centers Thai nationalities, the scenario is also applicable to those countries who also work overseas. Most of the scenes here are happening in real life and should be avoided. I think the writer/director are trying to open up people's mind on what is happening to people who do impulse decision and such. I hope this serves a lesson for all of us. Great job for everyone in this movie.

Tekken 2010: Not that bad

I am not a fan of Tekken but I used to play it on PlayStation when I was a kid until the time that I got headache playing it. It was one of my all time favorite video games aside from Street fighter (I've watched months ago Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li. Kristine Kreuk. xD) and Soul Blade (ooh.. The Best).

I was disappointed coz I thought I'd be able to see Hwoarang (Favorite Character <3) live in action and witness his adorable face and moves but then at least there's Jin (played by Jon Foo) and he was hot. :P

I love how Christie (played by Kelly Overton) did the accusing stare to the amateur People's Choice Jin. You know in that first look who's gonna be his love interest.
And I laugh on how Jin said "Sorry, I was just admiring your toes".
Haha. Cute. xD
Christie: Who are you anyway?
Jin: My name is Jin.
Christie: So you are the people's choice?
Jin: You seem surprised.
Christie: You don't look like much.
Jin: You, remember you said that when I win Iron Fist.
Christie: Right.
That was my favorite scene. I can't remember much the moves of the certain characters that was in the movie but in my point of view the action scenes weren't that bad.

"Staring at my ass is a good way to get yours kicked"
Christie to Jin. So win.
And with the battle scenes, it was Raven vs Eddie. Ohh I love the crazy dancing moves of Eddie in the game though it was not really copied in the movie. Not so bad though.

Eddie Gordo (his style was missing)

After that was Jin vs Miguel. Surely my boy won. And look at that stare. Sexy. Haha .

And the next fight was just a dream. Imagine girls like them fighting like cats in the ring. lol It's madness. How about Paris Hilton versus Lindsay Lohan inside the jail. Mhmm..

Christie Monteiro cat fight with Nina Williams
Within their fight Christie confronted Nina along with her twin about their attempted assassination for Jin, Anna. Nina told Christie, "I like your boyfriend, he's cute". Then boom the usual girls instinct (I guess for me that's the way I think, sort of). After her finish:

"Sorry, I don't share"
The next scenes were a little bit bloody when Kazuya found out that Jin was his son which means he is no loner the only heir of Tekken Corporation. Heihachi was over throned by Kazuya and soon he announced that Tekken is now a battle for death. I didn't pertain so much in those parts since I'm not a fan of bloody gross part. All I know was that Jin beat Kazuya with honor and told him that the curse of Mishima is not his but only him. Funny that the protagonist doesn't not win because he is damn good. Just a matter of luck and with the help of friends, the usual.

Ouch, Kazuya. And that's how he became the People's Champion.
 (Manny Pacquiao is that you?)
So far, in terms of action, Tekken was way better than Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li (though Kristine Kreuk did a good job with her stunts. Its the story that failed). We can still hope though for Street Fighter Legacy where Jon foo will play as Ryu. So much to anticipate.
